new site-specific installation opens this week in London (UK)

i am so pleased to present my new work, filling a space with salt (in 2 parts), at the South London Gallery as part of an incredible exhibition titled At the Moment of Being Heard. for this piece i have inhabited the two rear heating shafts under the floor of the main gallery space to create a piece in 2 parts… pt.1 is a sculpture made from 375 kg of salt, filling and just overflowing the left corner vent. pt.2 is the audio, captured in many dimensions from this process, which is contained inside the right corner vent. the 2 parts are directly across the room, mirroring each other – one side visual, the other side aural.

the action took 108 minutes and the final audio is a delicate textural piece that blurs the lines between fluid and coarse materiality.

my piece is presented alongside a beautiful selection of works by artists i am honored to present with – Rolf Julius (DE), Baudouin Oosterlynck (BE), Eli Keszler (US), Reiner Ruthenbeck (DE) and Leif Elggren (SW). the exhibition will also feature an ongoing series of events over the duration of the show with an incredible array of international artists, including; Marginal Consort (JP), La Cellule d’Intervention Metamkine (FR), Tetsuya Umeda (JP), Marina Rosenfeld (US), Henning Christiansen (DK), Junko Wada, Miki Yui and Rie Nakajima (JP) and more…

Opening, Thursday, June 27 5:30 – 8:30

Exhibition runs from June 28 – September 8, 2013

Concerts with Oren Ambarchi’s Knots Ensemble coming in the week ahead

I am really looking forward to performing as part of Oren Ambarchi’s Knots Ensemble for two special events this coming week. In Oslo we will perform at the Only Connect festival on Friday, June 7 and in London at Café Oto on June 12. The ensemble includes Ambarchi (guitar), James Rushford (viola), Joe Talia (drums), Judith Hamann (cello – London), Ilan Volkov (viola – London), myself (amplified objects & spring) with additional guest string players in each city.

These should be very special concerts of this mammoth centrepiece (KNOTS) from Ambarchi’s last solo album on Touch records Audience of One!
