This weekend from ThursdayOctober 21 – Sunday October 24 an ambitious 4-day event titled The Sound of Distance, will activate the various spaces in and around the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) with an array of performances and installations. Curated by Jan St Werner and the HKW the event will feature two of my sound installations and two performances.
I am truly thrilled to bring two of Annea Lockwood‘s wonderful pieces to this event. Her gorgeous piece Dusk (2012) will be presented through loudspeakers outside of the HKW at dusk each day (17:55 – 18:05). I will also be presenting & performing in bayou-borne, for Pauline – a graphic score for six instrumentalists/voices based on a map of six bayou’s which converge near Houston Texas, where Pauline Oliveros grew up. Unfortunately Annea cannot be with us for the event but i am thrilled to be working with a wonderful ensemble created especially for this event which includes Oren Ambarchi, Sam Dunscombe, Werner Durand, Emilio Gordoa and Michiko Ogawa.
I will also perform alongside lovely artists Matana Roberts and Andrea Belfi as part of a spatialized collaboration organized by David Grubbs titled Three Simultaneous Soloists, .
So many other wonderful pieces and performances by Alvin Lucier, Diana Deutsch, Stephen O’Malley, Judith Hamann, Oren Ambarchi, Anthea Caddy and more will fill these days and I am really looking forward to it all!
