A Piece Of Work – LP / Digital – is out TODAY – March 4

I am thrilled to announce that ‘A Piece Of Work‘ is officially out on LP / Digital today via Berlin based label Second Editions. This piece was originally commissioned for radio broadcast in 2019 by Radiophrenia (Glasgow) and was developed further through live performances in 2019-2021 to conclude in this final version.

The piece features guest appearances by Seiji Morimoto (electronics) and Oren Ambarchi (percussion). Mixed with Joe Talia at Good Mixture and mastered/cut by Anne Taegert at Dubplates & Mastering in Berlin.

I would like to send a BIG thank-you to Malte Jantzen of Second Editions for his support, enthusiasm and patience(!).

The album is available at all the great distributors (EU/US/JP) and can be purchased digitally directly through my bandcamp page HERE.

‘Assembled from fragments collected in Oslo, Berlin, Vienna, Winnipeg, Melbourne and Lisbon, ‘A Piece of Work’ is far more than a travelog or audio diary. cole’s compositions develop more like poetry, resolutely refusing to intone clearly about the exactness of place, but instead representing space, feeling and the joy of investigation. There’s a collage quality to the almost 30-minute composition that flows gently from blustering concrete sounds into warbling tonal drones, subtle crackles and synthesized sputters. But cole’s less interested in hard cuts than imperceptible evolution; her elements shift like sunlight, dipping behind the clouds for a moment, diving from view with perfect, natural timing.’

Solo performance in Berlin this Saturday, Dec 11

I will present a short solo performance this Saturday night for the finissage of the wonderful NOTHINGTOSEENESS exhibition at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. The exhibition will be open late for this occasion and at 7 PM a program of performances by myself, Arnold Dreyblatt and Phillip Sollmann will take place.

Our performances relate to the concept of the beautifully curated exhibition which explores ideas that relate to Void/White/Silence, showcasing diverse takes on these themes including monochromatics, minimalism and more conceptual approaches – with a special interest in the link between music & silence.

My piece ‘μαύρο / άσπρο‘ was developed by working with sounds that evoke ideas of darkness and light.

I will also perform alongside lovely artists Matana Roberts and Andrea Belfi as part of a spatialized collaboration organized by David Grubbs titled Three Simultaneous Soloists, .
